THE UMMUKULTHUM MAIYAKI FOUNDATION

Building healthier, stronger rural communities — one project, one life, one legacy at a time.

Our Story

The Ummukulthum Maiyaki Foundation (UMF) is more than an organisation — it is a tribute to love, legacy, and purpose. Founded in honour of Ummukulthum Maiyaki, who left this world on May 19th, 2016, UMF was born from the desire to turn personal loss into lasting impact. We are a non-profit committed to uplifting the welfare of rural communities in Niger State, Nigeria, by addressing the deep inequalities that come from a lack of access to clean water and basic amenities. Our work reflects the values Ummukulthum lived by — compassion, dignity, and service to others. In carrying her name forward, we carry her light into the lives of those who need it most.

What We Do

  • Social Development

We believe that real change begins with people. UMF supports initiatives that enhance education, health, and economic opportunities in rural communities. By addressing the root causes of inequality and poverty, we aim to uplift lives and create an environment where individuals and families can thrive.

  • Safe and Sustainable Water Access

Clean water is essential for health, dignity, and development. UMF works to provide rural communities with reliable access to safe and sustainable water sources, such as boreholes and water treatment systems. Our water projects are designed to be environmentally conscious, locally managed, and built to last.

  • Community Capacity Building

We invest in people, not just projects. UMF empowers communities through training, local leadership development, and skills building. By strengthening the capacity of individuals and groups, we aim at ensuring that communities can maintain progress, respond to challenges, and lead their own development journeys.

Those who spend their wealth in charity day and night, secretly and openly — their reward is with their Lord, and there will be no fear for them, nor will they grieve.

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:274)
